Function
The Bentley Mulsanne Key features two buttons: one that opens the trunk, and another which starts the vehicle. It also has a switch that can turn on the parking break. There is a knob that can fold and unfold the mirrors while parking in tight spaces. This feature can assist you in getting into and out of your vehicle more easily.
The key is constructed from vegetable tanned leather. It takes over two days to create each one. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, sewed and sealed, then polished to give a superior result. It is lightweight and durable and matches the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is akin to the Volkswagen Phaeton large car's key however it feels heavier and has a more luxurious feel.
Secure-A-Key is also available to protect against keyless entry theft. This device is inserted inside the remote-control key fob. It will shut it off after a few minutes of inactivity, which prevents thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that are able to unlock and start the vehicle.
Bentley's distinctive design is a reflection of the values of the company which include exquisite craftsmanship and engineering expertise as well as cutting-edge technologies. More than 4,000 employees work at its Crewe headquarters, and are responsible for the design, development and production of Bentley cars. They employ skills that have been handed over generations and then apply them to cutting-edge automotive technology. This is British manufacturing at its finest.
Personalisation
Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their car. The "mood station" allows guests to select images that inspire them. They can range from stunning views to sporting events. Every time a choice is made, the pattern that emerges reveals the model, color and style preferences for the custom Bentley.

The resulting configuration is stored on individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys that are then presented to the guests in a custom key case. Keys can be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised welcome lamps, which illuminate the path of the door's opening. They are adorned with the owner's logo or name as they approach the vehicle.
Bentley claims it takes about 500 man-hours in order to create and assemble the average Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace modern technology is the main factor to this time-consuming effort. Instead of using a machine to space the perfectly-matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Instead of letting the car's built-in sensors guide it to perpendicular and parallel parking spots drivers must perform the task by hand.
The event also saw Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization capabilities by presenting an exclusive example of the Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays tribute to the founder William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars include the key, which displays the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
